This area of woodland is affordable for those with a limited budget wishing to experience the joys of woodland ownership. Although small this wood has much to offer in terms of a varied broadleaf tree stock with some fine examples of mature beech and ash trees.
Byron Wood is easy to access along an adjacent woodland ride suitable for vehicle access. Furthermore Byron Wood is predominantly level and is therefore suitable for occasional camping trips where at the lower edge of the wood you can awaken to attractive views over open countryside.
As well as an appealing mix of mature trees and open glades the area is home to both Roe deer and the elusive Muntjack deer.
The surrounding area has plenty to occupy the visitor. The local market town of Dursley has a rich and varied industrial history founded in the 15th century with woollen cloth manufacturing. Many former mill buildings are still in evidence locally in alternative uses.

Take the A4135 road from Dursley sign posted to Tetbury. Just after leaving Dursley there is a steep hill known as Whiteway. The entrance is on the left at the start of the woodland. There is a new wooden gate set back from the road. It is best to park at the foot of the hill in one of the side roads and walk up to the entrance. Follow the woodland track from the entrance for approximately 50m and Byron Wood is on the left just before the woodland track leading up the slope to the right.
