Brightwater wood - Over 5 acres, £49,000

Brightwater wood

In the heart of Devon this really is a place to get away from it all. Surrounded by farmland and woodland, Brightwater wood has two distinct areas, a well-managed mature conifer woodland of mainly Douglas Fir with the other area of woodland being a mix of natural regeneration broadleaf. Brightwater wood provides a rich diversity of flora and fauna within the woodland including both Red and Roe deer along with Badgers, Foxes and Dormice.

A beautiful clear flowing stream inspired the name Brightwater Wood. This beautiful stream runs through the woodland providing an aesthetically pleasing vista as well as a water resource. The woodland is accessed via a good track that takes you to the wood via a shallow ford. The internal rides are only suitable for a 4x4 but the wood is laid out in such a way to make it easy to walk around.

Umberleigh is a quiet village set around the old three-arched Umberleigh bridge, by the river Taw. This area by the river Taw is famous as the home of Tarka the Otter. Umberleigh has a village Post Office, Tea Rooms, Railway Station and a popular pub.

The woodland is only 6 miles from Barnstaple on the A377 with the towns of South Molton and Torrington 8 miles away on the B3227.  Umberleigh is served by the Tarka line train with wonderful views to Umberleigh Station. Trains run from Barnstaple to Exeter every hour.

The villages of Chittlehampton, Chittlehamholt and Atherington are only two miles in each direction from the bridge, and all well worth a visit.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Directions

Heading North on A377 take a right turn to Umberleigh by 'The Rising Sun' pub. Continue over the bridge and take first right turn by the Tea Rooms.

Continue past Post Office, over the railway crossing and on for approx. two miles, following signs to Warkleigh. When you reach Warkleigh, look for a farmhouse and a large church on your right. About 100 metres after this turn right at Pool cross, signposted 'Pool' (a no through road). Follow the track down for around 200 metres until it splits into two.

If you have a car you will need to park to the left just before the split, making sure you don't block access to the field gate and the lane itself. If you have a 4x4 or the ground clearance you can continue.

Follow the track straight on down the hill, passing the 'woodlands for sale' sign on the first gate to the right, to where the river crosses the track. Park to the left just after this.

Enter the first gate at the bottom of the hill and follow the track until you see the ‘Brightwater wood’ sign on your left where there is a fork in the track. The wood can be accessed by turning left by the sign, crossing the ford and following the track right into the woodland.
