Low Mill Wood is in a most spectacular setting being located on the banks of the river Lune at the Crook O' Lune, a well known local beauty spot and only a few miles from Lancaster. The wood slopes from the level area by the road down to the river where there is another smaller flat area: the river Lune is wide at this point and there are fine views of the riffles, deeps and banks upstream and downstream. No two days are the same on the river, whether in full flow after winter rains or the lazy low water meandering of a summer's day. There are approximately 200 metres of river frontage. The river Lune is a salmon fishing river and although the fishing rights are not included with the woodland, permits can be purchased from the Environment Agency, please click here for more fishing information. There are ample places to store and launch a canoe.
Growing within the woodland are some large oak, ash and beech with plenty of smaller trees of varying ages, including some coppiced hazel and also some birch. A path which runs through the wood and is shown on the plan helps to give access around the wood. There is a lease with Lancaster City Council which allows public access along this path.
The boundaries of the wood are indicated by stakes to the north west and the south and the road and river form the south west and east boundaries.
