SOLD: Artemis Wood £159,000 Freehold

Description

The woodland here is an intriguing mix of oak, beech, birch and conifer and a thriving understory of dense undergrowth that has become home to a great variety of wildlife, including roe and muntjac deer. Openings beneath the canopy and sheltered areas beneath the larger trees make ideal camping and woodworking locations for the woodland enthusiast to fully engage in the wide range of activities that a wood of this scale and diversity can offer.

Artemis Wood originates from a time in the middle of the last century when the need for timber prompted a period of planting with long term commercial timber value in mind. As domestic commercial timber markets declined the trees were never harvested and nature has been allowed to resume control; so that today we have a beautiful natural environment of mature woodland.

In more recent times where areas of conifer have been thinned young oak has been planted and so the mixed woodland of the next generation is becoming established.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant

Features

Artemis Wood enjoys an interesting topography. The land undulates across two gently sloping gullies running parallel with each other. Within each is a small seasonal woodland stream wending its way through the wood and acting as a focal point for resident wildlife before draining into the river Brue and onward into Bruton.

The wood takes its name from the beauty of nature and proliferation of attractive wildflowers that populate the grassy verges along the access track to the wood.

Artemis, in Greek mythology is the goddess of wild animals, the hunt, and vegetation and of chastity and childbirth

Local area and history

Nearby Bruton has a long history as a rural settlement by virtue of a strategic location alongside the river Brue, which takes its name from the old Celtic word 'briw' meaning vigour. This small market town offers plenty of opportunity for refreshment after days or nights spent enjoying the woods.

Directions

From the town of Bruton follow the A359 towards Frome until bearing right as you exit the town onto the Brewham Road. Continue out of the town with the railway line on your right hand side for a mile or so as the road becomes Pinkwood Lane and there is woodland on both sides of the road. After a further few hundred metres you will see a 'Woodlands For Sale' sign and metal entrance gates leading onto a woodland track.

These gates are kept locked but prospective purchasers can contact Daniel on 07780 900192 for the combination padlock code to allow vehicle access or can walk from this point taking care not to obstruct the gates.

Approaching from Frome and the north, head south on the A359 until a right turn at a rusty signpost reading 'North South' onto Hassock's Lane. After a few hundred yards bear right onto Hutchin's Lane and proceed for a further few hundred metres until the road bears sharply to the right at Batt's Farm. From here continue down Pinkwood Lane for a few hundred metres until the entrance gates and 'Woodlands For Sale' sign on your right.

Follow the woodland track up hill into the woods and refer to the plans below for the exact location of Artemis Wood, which will be found after approximately 400 metres on your left where you will observe the red boundary markings and sign bearing the name.
