SOLD: Lysander Wood £110,000 Freehold

Description

The welcoming embrace of the spreading boughs of veteran oak trees standing guard at the wood's edge, invites further progress into the sunny clearings of Lysander Wood.

These secluded, sheltered areas beneath the oak canopy provide glimpses of views through the trees of hilltops across the valley to the south and fertile farmland to the east, making this a truly inspirational place to engage with nature.

From the large areas of level ground at the northern edge the woodland then slopes gently down the hillside where there is a thick cover of hazel, oak, birch and holly.

The giant oaks reach skyward at regular intervals, indicative of the careful management of this woodland by previous generations that have maintained the tree cover and allowed the best specimens to thrive and spread their giant limbs. Space here has also been allowed for the natural regeneration of holly in the generous clearings where sunlight can reach the woodland floor.

The rich autumn colours of burnt orange and gold are a delight to behold as the annual regeneration process transforms the look and feel of the wood.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant

Trees

This is a good example of the multiple layers of woodland growth beneath the canopy. The woodland naturally regenerates a ground layer, shrub layer and new canopy where older trees reach the end of their lives and open the woodland to the restorative power of sunlight.

Sunny clearings within the wood make perfect camping opportunities, where on clear moonlit nights this enchanting setting is evocative of many a theatrical romantic encounter such as that of Lysander and Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream, from which the wood takes its name.

Features

Ancient boundary bank and veteran beech trees and clearings.

Access, tracks and footpaths

An access track which is suitable for most vehicles leads from the highway to the north west corner where there is a parking space.

A rural footpath borders the norther boundary and runs along the western edge of the wood.

Local area and history

Beyond Lysander Wood the natural beauty of the surrounding area draws many visitors. Numerous walking trails cross the county including The Gloucestershire Way and Offa's Dyke Path. The Wye Valley offers a chance to enjoy the scenery from the water and the historic city of Gloucester provides all the facilities necessary for a comfortable camping experience or to begin the journey of managing your own wood.
