Description
Bird Wood has thrived since it was planted during the millennium years without much intervention in recent times.
The woodland is a place where there is no need to hurry. Experience suggests that it is best to enjoy a cycle of seasons and take time to plan how best to enjoy a woodland.
It may be principally as a place of retreat and for the enjoyment of nature with minimal interruption required. Or there is the option for much greater activity, to diversify the natural environment for the benefit of wildlife through further planting of native species and development of suitable habitat. Whichever route is preferred, the young woodland here is an ideal ownership opportunity, with secure access and the timeless pleasure of nature to enjoy.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenantTrees
The woodland is a wonderful mix of traditional British trees. 30% of the trees planted were oak followed in declining order with ash, cherry, rowan, silver birch, field maple crab apple and holly. 10% of the planting area was made up of woody shrubs to ensure the wood has a varied understory giving wildlife plenty of cover. Poplar trees make up the eastern side of the wood giving both cover and a fast growing timber crop for the future.
Wildlife
Features
The woodland is a secure sanctuary. Set behind a locked gate and surrounded by ditches it offers anyone looking for a long term project the chance to create their own woodland. The hard work has been done, the land was cleared and planted about 25 years ago. The trees have taken incredibly well and are now established yet still young and full of vigour. An owner will have the benefit of seeing them grow at the most exciting period of a trees growth. A number of open spaces offer great places to camp and enjoy the surrounding countryside. Some larger popular trees mark the eastern edges and these provide good cover and protection from wind.
Access, tracks and footpaths
The woodland is accessed direct from the lane via a five bar gate. The woodland is very private and is surrounded by ditches on three sides.
