Description

Within a short journey from Milton Keynes, Cambridge and London, small woodlands that are available to purchase are rare in this part of the UK. The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant

Trees

In spring a scattering of bluebells make an attractive showing, these are indicators that this is an ancient area of woodland.

Much of the wood was replanted with both Scots pine and Norwegian spruce, these have grown into fine specimens along with naturally regenerated trees such as sycamore, oak, and ash. The diverse combination makes the woodland feel natural.

Wildlife

The woods are alive with an abundance of wildlife. It is extremely rare to find a woodland that is home to 5 of the 6 species of deer to be found in the UK Roe, Muntjac, Fallow, Red and Chinese Water deer have all been seen. Many of these deer are descendants from the Victorian deer parks at Woburn Abbey. You may also see hares badgers and foxes.

Features

The woodland is level and with good spacing between the trees ensuring that the woodland floor is cascaded in dappled light during the summer months. A small shed houses a composting lavatory which is a great feature for those looking to overnight in the woodland.

Access, tracks and footpaths

Little Shed Wood has full vehicle access passed other areas of privately owned woodlands to the woodland via the north western gate ( see plan 3 ) This is an excellent solid stone track suitable for most family vehicles.

Activities

Little Shed Wood provides the opportunity for a new owner to engage in family forestry at an entry level. Managing a mixed woodland and learning bushcraft skills is a great way to escape modern life. Camping or building woodland hides and all sorts of other outdoor activities can be done here. The old ride running from the entrance would make an excellent spot to place bee hives or spend time nature watching.

Local area and history

The local area is filled with history and interesting places to visit, Gayhurst House is an near the town of Gayhurst. The mansion was expanded in 1597 by William Moulsoe and then completed by Everard Digby, one of the gunpowder conspirators. Although Digby was convicted of treason after the failure of the conspiracy, his wife Mary was allowed to keep the mansion. Newport Pagnell is only a short drive and has many cafes and shops, it is also the home of Aston Martin.
