The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenantTrees
Entering the woodland, you are welcomed by dappled light on a sea of bluebells and various shades of green in spring. Beech and ash trees approximately 60 years old dominate the woodland. The trees were thinned in 2015 and are well spaced, tall and acquiring girth. A little further into the wood there is an area of pure larch, also 60 years of age. These well-regarded timber trees have good length and diameter, and will be highly valued for their construction grade lumber. Equally valuable are the scattering of Douglas fir and Scots pine found further into the wood. These are in smaller groups and more dispersed amongst the broadleaves. Beech, sweet chestnut, oak and cherry, are all showing good form and character.
Wildlife
A vast array of wildlife including hares, squirrels, wood pigeon are all regular visitors to the woodland. Fallow deer, roe deer and Muntjac have also been seen. Woodland provides vital cover for local wildlife and is a haven for deer to rest during daylight hours.
Features
The thinning of the woodland has been undertaken to a good standard with the spacing this is both highly attractive and promotes tree growth. By contrast the outskirts of the woodland has a more natural feel with hornbeam hazel, holly and hawthorn.
Access, tracks and footpaths
The woodland is accessed from the lane along a very solid stoned track. The main wood entrance is locked with a new farm style gate providing wood owners security. To the Western edge of the woodland a footpath provides an excellent way to travel to and from the woodland on foot or by bike.
Activities
This woodland is in an ideal area to spend a well-deserved relaxing time amongst some amazing wildlife. To perfectly capture this, you could set up some wildlife cameras or even build a wildlife hide from fallen branches and bracken in summer. This could also be a place to have time camping with your family and friends a perfect rural retreat.
Local area and history
Flamstead is a village in north-west Hertfordshire, England, close to the junction of the A5 and the M1 at junction 9. The name is thought by some historians to be a corruption of the original Verulamstead. The wood is named after this and gives a good indicator to the woods ancient past.
This area has been farmed for over a thousand years and many of the woodlands have probably been wooded in different forms for that period and longer.
