Description
Coed Hen Gapel is a relatively level, mixed broadleaf woodland located just a couple of miles away from the lovely seaside town of Criccieth. The trees are quite dense, so this would be an ideal opportunity to do some thinning, favouring whichever species are preferred.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenantTrees
A conifer crop was clear-felled about 25 years ago, and apart from along the external boundaries with adjacent fields, all of the growth is mixed broadleaf natural regeneration, with the occasional conifer to be found.
Features
Leading off from the hard standing parking area there is a recently brush cut path which leads to a small clearing with a simple handmade bench.
There are some areas of seasonal wetland within the wood - wet in the winter, much drier in the spring and summer.
Access, tracks and footpaths
Access to the woodland is via a small stretch of track, which used to be a public road, until the road was widened back in the 1970s, and moved away from the wood. The remains of the tarmac means this track is suitable for most cars. There is a stone parking area at the entrance of the woodland however, the remaining track beyond this parking area comes with the woodland and can also be used for parking.
There are no tracks within the woodland and no public footpaths.
Local area and history
Located a couple of miles away is the lovely seaside town of Criccieth here you’ll find several pubs and restaurants as well as Criccieth Castle which is a stunning sight as you enter Criccieth from the east. Llanystumdwy is where David Lloyd George was brought up as a child, before going on to be Prime Minister from 1916-1922. There is a Lloyd George museum in the village.
