Description
Gosheden Wood bears the name of the nearby townland of Gosheden.
You enter the wood through your own gate and proceed to the spacious parking area, which has been thoughtfully landscaped. A rustic bench has been provided for you to rest and enjoy the peace and tranquility and spectacular view across to Donegal.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenantTrees
It is a young, predominantly birch woodland, with pockets of oak, Scots pine, alder and hazel.
Wildlife
It has established well on marginal farmland and now provides a haven for wildlife. It is at a prime age for thinning and could produce an excellent harvest of birch firewood, with the added benefit of opening the wood up providing more space for the remaining birch trees, and other species to thrive and develop into fine specimens.
Features
Downstream of the culvert is a pretty burn that winds its way between the trees before flowing out near the north-east corner. This could be turned into a delightful feature, perhaps making the focal point of a clearing with a camp site, incorporating a rustic bridge? As the owner of Gosheden Wood, it is your choice!
Access, tracks and footpaths
There is an informal, waymarked path to reach the viewpoint, marked by pink flashes of paint on the trees, with convenient log bridges to cross the drainage ditches. Access is directly off the Goseden Road through the wood's own gate. There is also road frontage.
Local area and history
To prepare it for planting around 15 years ago, the land was cultivated to provide an elevated planting position for each tree and improve the drainage; in the process, part of its past agricultural history was revealed in the form of an underground stone culvert.
