SOLD: Haremoss Wood £79,500 Freehold

Description

The landscape is wonderful in this part of Aberdeenshire with rolling countryside and expansive view. Haremoss sits on the side of a hillside, a relatively steep incline rising up to a spectacular and large plateau.

The entrance to the wood is dominated by tall sycamore with a 4 x 4 track heading directly up the hill; the original forestry commission access would have come through neighbouring land, the route can be seen on the wood map and would have been at a more gentle angle. That would have been the most obvious timber extraction route,

The woodland is of about 14 acres and the timber has grown well. As has occurred widely in the NE of Scotland, there has been historical storm damage resulting in wind-blow, mainly in the north west corner, affecting 3-4 acres of land, with some further minor wind-blow amongst the Scots pine further again to the north west of the wood. The plateau area is a mixture of spruce wind-blow, larch and Scots pine, with a good sized grassy area that would be perfect for camping or further planting of native species adding greater diversity. There is plenty of good flat land along the top which provides a future owner with plenty of options.

It can be a bit of a trek to get up to the top but it is worthwhile: the views and general aspect are stunning! Haremoss Wood is very much a woodland looking for someone to take on a project. There are no covenants attached to this woodland or restrictions on running business out of the woodland.

There is a growing interest in hut, bothy and temporary shelter building, especially in Scotland; for those interested in erecting a hut or shelter, here is some interesting and very helpful guidance from Reforesting Scotland’s Thousand Hut Campaign. Your Local Planning Authority should also be consulted.

Trees

Haremoss Wood is rich in quality timber with stands of spruce, larch, Scots pine and sycamore that will provide income when harvested.

Wildlife

The woods are rich with wildlife with deer and rabbits as well as some signs of transient badgers; trail cams would surely reveal a lot more. Birdsong is abundant as we move into spring.

Features

There are stunning views from the woodland across the Dronach valley with an abundance of timber that will bring in income.

Access, tracks and footpaths

There is a steep rough 4 x 4 rack that runs the entire length to the top plateau (there are half a dozen trees that will need to be cleared first).

Rights and covenants

All sporting rights are sold with the woodland, and there is no covenant attached to this woodland.

Activities

This would be a fantastic location for camping with majestic views in what is a wonderful area.

Local area and history

The woods are well placed for exploring the surrounding area with the beautiful towns of Banchory, Ballater and Braemar to the south and the stunning countryside of Deeside . The Cairngorm National Park is within striking distance as well as many small fishing villages to the north. Huntley is the closest large town offering all the amenities of civilisation.

The woodland sits above the Glendronach Distillery one of Scotland's oldest and is close to the small hamlet of Forgue.
