With lush green pastures and an extensive frontage on to the River Frome, Hardy Meadow is an idyllic piece of land and would be perfect for anyone with amenity or conservation interests. At just over 3 acres in size, it presents as a neatly contained opportunity to plant a yound woodland and rewild the land. The land also benefits from direct access from the A356 and private parking.

The eastern boundary is formed by a well established hedgerow, which also continues across half of the northern edge, before the River Frome takes over providing the remainder of the northern boundary and entire western boundary. The river meanders as it hugs the meadow, creating a generous frontage of over 200 meters. As a chalkstream, the River Frome is incredibly clear and provides a wonderful source of water for land, as well as an opportunity for a spot of fishing or wild swimming. The broadleaved species which populate the banks of the river provide privacy and shady spots on sunny days. These trees will also provide a useful seed source for natural regeneration of the land. The southern boundary is demarcated with a line of stakes.

The meadow itself is down to grass having been previously used as pastureland for livestock. The land undulates extremely gently, rising up from entrance gate to comparatively higher ground, before dropping away again towards the river. A prospective owner may wish to plant trees across the entirety of the land, or indeed reserve some space for a wildflower meadow.

The area is a haven for wildlife with the hedgerows, river and native tree species attracting a variety of birds, insects and mammals. This would only be further complimented by the addition of young trees.

In terms of finding the meadow, whilst heading north up the A356 from Dorchester, the “Planting Land” sign can be seen on the left hand side by a lay-by 2km after the village of Frampton (with a further 2km to go before reaching Maiden Newton). Please park here and go through the gate and turn immediately right, and go through a further gate. Walk north along the perimeter of the field (with the hedge on your right) until you reach a small compound with two entrance gates, of which the further one is for Hardy Meadow.
