Community Woodlands Projects

One of our main aims at Woodlands.co.uk is to get more people into woodlands, including those people and groups who can't afford to buy their own wood. For the last 2 years we have been running a community woodlands project and in that space of time we have had more than 500 requests from people who wish to use woodlands for activities involving the local community. We now have people who use our woods for children's groups, scouts, forest schools, social forestry, bushcraft courses, woodlands management demonstrations, off-road horse riding organisations, orienteering and coppicing.

As we have received such a large number of enquiries, we have decided to set up a forum to put community groups in touch with other woodland owners who would be interested in allowing their woodland to be used in this way.

Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre

As a qualified forest school leader I am looking for a woodland in the above areas to either lease or purchase to set up a forest school for children in Blackpool and surrounding areas. I have recently retired from my post as Deputy Head Teacher at a special school for students with complex learning needs. My daughter is a qualified Forest Schools instructor and environmentalist. Together with two others, we want to create education programmes to support the development of literacy and numeracy through environmental education. This will include woodland trails, storytelling etc, alongside other woodland activities. We are looking to loan/rent woodland in the area. We are particularly interested in working with someone who is also committed to this kind of educational project and would be interested in the long term development of the project. More details

I'm currently carrying out a photographic tree study for my final year project at university in Cornwall. I'm looking for anyone that would be interested in the project and kind enough to let me photograph some activities in woodlands such as management (coppicing..etc..), or sustainable living projects. These will be part of a book that I'm putting together for my project, I'm trying to focus on peoples relationships and work with trees for this chapter. I am a conservation enthusiast with a National Cert. in Countryside Management and am Chainsaw Licenced. I spent a year voluntering full time for the National Trust as a Countryside Warden. I live in my van (1985 VW T25 camper named Margot!) I am currently working as a Gardener and in a greenhouse growing herbs. I am looking for somewhere to park on a more permanent basis. In return for someswhere to park I could provide some help in the management of your woodland and also as security as I would be maintaining a presence on your land. I have experiance and skills in driving 4X4's, using chainsaws, strimmers, brushcutters, mowers, hedgleaying, coppicing, some woodland craft skills. I am very much self contained in my van.
