Community Woodlands Projects

One of our main aims at Woodlands.co.uk is to get more people into woodlands, including those people and groups who aren’t in a position to buy their own wood.

We have looked for ways to share the benefits of woodland more widely – by supporting schools, charities, youth groups, wellbeing projects and other community organisations who may not be able to by a woodland themselves.

For well over a decade, we have been running a community woodland project and in that space of time we have had more than 2,000 requests from people who wish to use woodlands for activities involving the local community. We now have people who use our woods for children’s groups, scouts, forest schools, social forestry, bushcraft courses, woodland management demonstrations, off-road horse riding organisations, orienteering and coppicing. These projects help bring people closer to nature through education, conservation, outdoor skills, wellbeing and practical woodland activities.

The success of the project has generated far more requests than our own woodlands can accommodate. For projects we are unable to support directly, this page provides a space for community groups to connect with other woodland owners who may be willing to support similar initiatives.

How the Community Woodlands Project Works

We receive many requests from individuals and organisations looking for woodland for community activities. These include forest schools, youth groups, wellbeing projects, conservation volunteers, outdoor learning providers and charities.

We do support a number of projects directly, but where we cannot we may be able to share the request so that independent woodland owners can consider whether they would like to help.

If you think your project or proposed project may be of interest, please email [email protected] with:
