Community Woodlands Project request

England-Hazel woodsDetails
Good Morning, My name is Rocio Belinchon and I am actually working at the Botanic Garden of Edinburgh. My research group (http://rbg-web2.rbge.org.uk/lichen/index.html) is currently carried out a project studying Epiphytic lichen diversity inhabiting Hazel woods across UK. The main aim of the study is to explore the impact air pollution and climatic conditions on lichen communities. From a conservation point of view, it is very important to have a reference point for the levels of epiphyte diversity which need to be achieved in order to maintain forest biodiversity. Our survey need to include different Hazelwood located in a gradient of pollution (low-high pollution levels) and rainfall (low-high annual rainfall) across UK, to explore the influence of these variables on the epiphytic lichen communities. Our purpose is to improve the knowledge of epiphytic communities, which contribute importantly to woodland diversity and ecosystem function. I write you because I would like to get information about hazelwoods in your area. Any information you can provide me will be helpful in project development (Number of woods, area, grid references, canopy, coppicing, …). Thank you very much for your attention.
