My wife and I run a self funded reptile rescue from home and have been for the last two years our website is www.safehavenreptilecentre.co.uk We openned a small shop on Ashley Road Parkstone selling reptile equipment. We openned the shop because many people asked us if we sell the equipment as well as re homing some of the reptiles. We are using the shop not only for selling the equipment but for a base for the rescue and for an educational centre. Our shop is called Safe Haven Exotics CIC. We help the public not only with pet animals but with native reptiles as well. Any profit we get goes to help fund the rescue. Over the last two or three months we have had more and more unwanted pets given to us and are slowly running out of room. Our dream is to open a larger conservation educational centre, if you like a bit like Monkey World but for reptiles, where the public can look and learn about reptiles and amphibians, spending a day out in the countryside, getting the public and schools involved in local conservation projects and hopefully get jobs either part or full time working with reptiles and amphibians either with us or other groups. We would like to do school trips talking to kids about not only reptiles but nature and what they could to do help looking after it. We contacted the BHS and the the ARC and they think it will be a great idea. We have contacted Sparsholt, Kingston Maurward and Bournemouth collages and they said they would use the centre for their students. We have spoken to the public in our area and they all have said that we need something like that in the South, not only for somewhere for the kids to go but for jobs as well. We had an artical in our local paper a few months ago since then we have had 6 or 7 VC's sent to us wanting to work in the centre. at the moment we take our reptiles to children groups as our centre is small, if we had a larger place the children groups can come to us and be able to spend more time with them. We have applied for lotto funding to help fund the project and now we are in the process of looking for the best place for the centre. We would like to know if you can help in anyway. We are looking for somewhere in the south that we can open this centre. We feel it will not only benefit the puplic but the countryside as well. Hope to here from you soon. Marc and LeanneContact
