Oak would be far different from cedar. you can split cedar quick and easy sitting down, with just a draw knife and piece of split cordwood, and a hard surface to set it on.. No hammer nor anything else.

Sorry but what do you call the tool you are sitting on and press with your feet to hold the shake while shaving it? Any plans on how to make one? Lol
