I you'd be willing to catch and relocate every squirrel in a 70 acre wood (probably 250-300 individuals) be my guest, bearing in mind that they will cause the same problems in their new home. You'd then have to stop them re entering the area from other areas of woodland which is practically impossible without and electrified fence. Grey squirrels do not belong in the UK and were introduced as they escaped from private collections some 150 years ago.

Sadly a lot of unconscious people (=people who do not 'think' what outcome non action or action has) find grey squirrels cute and cuddly…And yes they are! But the truth is that they have never been native to the UK and they are too many…As they aren't any natural predators around to reduce their numbers the responsibility is laid upon us…I remember a place where I used to live and found one morning 29 grey squirrels raiding the bird tables, feeders and trying to climb up at my neighbors..

..house. I bought a official squirrel trap and read that we are not allowed by law to set a grey squirrel free once captured.I also found ton's of very good recipes on the Internet and in Hugh Fernley- Whittingstalls cooking book/s. Their meat taste nicer than that of rabbits and is very filling. Cooked the right way (stew is fantastic) it is one of the softest meat's that I had ever eaten. I caught 41 squirrels in 3 month time in that trap in the small back garden! I think that's alarming!..

..Good news is that more and more restaurants seem to start to sell them. Some charge up to £ 25 for a squirrel meal, butchers and DIY are cheaper.
Thank you Julian for making people aware of the damage that these 'NOT NATIVE' animals do…

Just purchase a high powered pellet gun, a stock pot, olive oil, onion, garlic, white wine, paprika, salt and pepper. I add some wild game sausage myself, but this is optional. Add some rice at the end and mmmmmm ……. you're welcome.

We have absolute wheelbarrow loads of these annoying animals around my house in North Carolina…eating acorns and hickory nuts. They dig up bulbs and flowers faster than I can plant them…I have to check behind them every day to make sure they haven't dug my plants up…BUT…I have never seen them strip bark in America, like they do in this video!

They are stripping the bark on the oaks near me, shooting was the only option and the most humane, as capture and release would be breaking the law in the UK because they are classed as vermin, and only be moving the problem onto somewhere or someone else.

That's one of the main reasons we get permission to shoot in the woodland we do. The damage they cause is quite severe if they are left to go breed out of control.
