Regarding that air lock device: is it necessary or can you go by with just corking the bottle and leaving it alone?
Nice video, but please do not call this wine. Call it "tons of white sugar alcoholic beverage with some nettle, lemon and ginger"
it is necessary. Pressure builds up inside the container, so you need a pressure valve.
Demetrios Drystellas wine is not only from grapes, so yes this can be called wine. You see, not all of us can wander in our vine yards and pick grapes for wine making, some has to make do with whats available .
Wine indeed is not only made from grapes, in the extended definition of "wine", but it needs juice with naturally occurring sugars, eg berries, currants etc. This is just white sugar that creates the alcoholic content of the drink. In your logic, fermenting sucrose to create alcohol = wine.
An Oak leaf will give the wine tannin that enhances the taste. I don't like Nettles they have silicate in the leaves (the stingers) that can end up in your kidneys.
Dem Drys not really as catchy, is it mate?
I want to give it a go! Thanks for the recipe
