Here we see green woodworking expert Justin Sanford demonstrate traditional spoon carving. Justin shares his obvious skill and enthusiasm for this work as he tells us about the specific tools and techniques he adopts to produce these beautiful, useful items. Top man!
After watching and listening to you I'm going to make some myself.
Always wanted to.
Thanks for all the info.
You CAN come back and hit yourself! If you hold your arms in the drawknife using positions and pull your arms back toward your chest, you fists can go back as far as your armpits. If not, there's something wrong with your arms!
Now put a drawknife in yours hands and the only thing that stops your fists going under armpits, is the drawknife hitting your chest!
It won't injure you because you're aware of it and you can "break" as it approaches, which is something you can't do when pushing a knife blade forward. You'll slice your finger first!
It's great to see a person as yourself carving wonderful spoons and teaching in the old ways so to preserve history and provide a functional art piece. Thank you Budd !
An honest and noble art!, beautiful spoons and the perfect man for the job. Thank you Mr Sanford for making and sharing this post, I'm going to have me a go at carving a spoon !
I thoroughly enjoyed this guy and his speech! I'm from the southern USA do I have my own accent, but this was great.
Foolishly promised a year 6 boy that I'd teach him to carve a spoon next week. Not such a problem but all 27 children in the club might want to so trying to get into the mood. This video has really helped. Thank you!
