Owning a Woodland: Growing for Timber
26 June, 2021, 0 comments
There are various different ways to plant a woodland, and in this film, we learn about growing trees for timber. Andy has planted chestnut, hazel, oak and wild cherry to replace what was largely ash and larch, and with ash dieback threatening, this is an important move to keep the area wooded. The woodland canopy was previously very dense, so opening it up for replanting has benefits for wildlife and allows new plants to thrive. He also shows us an alternative to plastic tree guards to protect coppice regrowth from browsing deer.
