I love that Camp Axe or Boy's 2 LBS or 2 1/2 Pound Axe you have with the longer but not to long handle! I have 2 but one is the modern junk store bought made in who knows where version with the standard length axe handle. They called it a 2 1/2 or 2 1/4 pound boy's axe but the handle is not supposed to be the same handle as the 3.5 pound man's axe! That defeats part of the goodness of the Boy's Axe! I will find me another correct handle and burn the wood out of the new one I have and replace it soon. Slow low burn of course just letting the handle burn near the fire on it's own careful not to destroy the heat treatment and temper of the steel.
Don't flick hit split it only breaks and stresses handles and wedges. Maybe with a large 4-5 pound man's double bit it can be done but not a hatchet or boy's axe……………seen more guys hurt flick hitting hickory or ash fire wood then i care to talk about. " Oh check this out" they would say. " I can split the log and roll the wood all in one strike!" Then next thing I heard was ….( Wack!) ( SHIT!!!!! FU>>) help!
yes, hewing wood boards or roofing shingles, or roofing a roof with shingles, or taking shingles off a roof with the hewing roofing shingle axe you have 🙂
Very good. Thank you very much
Always enjoy your matter of fact teaching John. And your knowledge .
Not really I use metal ones because they stay in place longer
Excellent introduction to axes. Thank you John.
They are all right but their bits are so small you can't connect cuts easily when bucking wood. Also their handle come way too thick and the grind makes the edge bounce out of the cut.
very cool
Hewing & Broadaxe do that.
