John Butler: The Wood Carver
By woodlandstv
Slow connection? Watch in lower quality
A short film following the work of wood carver John Butler. John uses lime wood a traditional carvers wood and focusses his work on the odd little moments of life. This results in humorous works of art that feel alive.

Very cool look into how this is done. He does some really fun pieces!
The man is living a dream. Has his own little shop creating thing that he loves.
Great job
What a lovely little clip.
Absolutely love John's work…I must ask him to make me a few works…
It’s funny, because woodland owners I’ve spoken to who have Lime trees consider there is no market for the wood. It is regarded as worthless, and just left to rot.
I ask if they’ve heard of Grinling Gibbons (1648-1721). Most of his most famous pieces were carved from Lime. His work is regarded as the pinnacle of carving genius.
If carvers and landlords could only get together, there could be a valuable synergy.
