Working with Horses in the Woods
By woodlandstv
Slow connection? Watch in lower quality
Here we see Kate Mobbs-Morgan and her Ardennes horse Kipp at The Royal Bath & West Show, demonstrating their low impact timber extraction work. Kate explains how this method is particularly suited to wet, steep, small or environmentally sensitive or significant sites, where mechanical extraction might prove either impossible or unwelcome. Their emotional connection and extraordinary working relationship is clear as Kipp responds positively to Kate`s gentle voice and rope commands, to carry out the task efficiently and with enormous skill and strength.

Your compassion for you animal is so evident.!
What a magnificent animal! and I imagine one of the best `offices` in the world…….
Horses belong to themselves just like human beings belong to themselves. They are not on this earth to be enslaved. Most people have never seen horses running free! If you wouldn't want a bit shoved in your mouth, if you wouldn't want reins around your neck working you to death, then don't do it to horses.
I’m a climber… had a mate did some snigging with Walter Lloyd and Bill Arey in the S Lakes back in the late 80s… one of his shackles broke so I volunteered a climbing carabiner to replace it (22kn or 2.2tonne specification)… The horse, snigging out, leant in and it just melted like butter! Something else, these horses. Brilliant!
Domesticated animals owe their very existence to working for and with humans. Since they lack the capability of overt negotiation the deal is implicit in the act of their continuation and care.
Great explaining Kate. Thanx
Keep on doing the good work
