this is my last resort to find my outside stop tap, we've had the water board out and I have turned over so many stones to try and find it we have also tried metal detectors. will let you know how I get on.

Catherine Fahy We discovered a water leak somewhere between the meter and our house. I went to Home Depot and purchased a 36"X1/8" brass rod ($10). I cut it in half and bent the pieces about 6" from each end. Just so I knew my hands were not touching the rod, I cut a 3/8" wood dowel in 2 6" pieces and drilled a hole a bit bigger than the rod down a few inches so the rod could slip inside. I took them out to my side yard where I knew the water line was and with the water off in the house found the place of the leak. I then turned on some water in the house and the rods showed the entire length of the pipe. I've come to the conclusion that this works very well locating running water. Whatever, I know 100% that it works.

@newlidaho I have tried it and it gave me the approximate location. Thanks for the tip about turning the tap on, I will try that next and see if it shows me the length of the pipe. The water board can hear the water running when the tap is on so it's there somewhere!

I feel so sorry for people that still think this works. This is complete bullshit and doesnt work.
