How to Make a Dead Hedge

Have you ever wondered what to do with broken, pruned and coppiced branches to benefit wildlife? In this film by Quentin Clark of Silk Purse Videos, Mike Saynor from the Holt Copse Volunteers demonstrates how to make a dead hedge using these branches. He explains how a dead hedge will evolve over years as it decomposes and becomes an important habitat for fungi, invertebrates, reptiles and other woodland flora and fauna.

Very interesting, thank you!
10 big overgrown trees down on our 1 acre forest garden here this winter, PLENTY of material to top up my dead hedges 🙂 When I get round to it! 😉
Wonderfully explained. Thanks Mike.
