Horse Logging
Jo Ambrose, horse logger, gives a fascinating interview on her work and her horses to Woodlands TV.
Extracting timber by horsepower is ideally suited to smaller woodlands, and where there is a need to minimise the impact on the forest floor. Horses are able to move and work in environmentally sensitive areas without the damage that machinery might cause. The stocky and powerful, but nimble, Ardennes horses that you see in the video also win out over machinery in difficult terrain.
